Winning At Low Limit Texas Holdem

Winning At Low Limit Texas Hold'em

This article is going to approach winning at low limit Teaxas Hold'em with a number of strategies.  You must, however, break poker hands down into a few main categories so you can get a conceptual perspective.

The low limit Texas Hold'em hand categories that will be discussed are: Big Pairs, Draws, and Milking Hands.  Remember, every hand you play will fall into one of these categories.  Using this approach, you will decide how you will play it after that flop.

Big Pairs: A big pair is either a top pair or an over pair. For example a big pair would be when you have AK, and the flop is an AQ2.  In this case, you have what is known as a top pair.  Thus, you want to make it as costly as possible for the other poker players to try to draw out on you.  Big pair hands work best when there are few people in a low limit Texas Hold'em game.  The more low limit Texas Hold'em players in against you, the weaker they become because you have more people drawing and there will be less safe cards that won't help them improve.  Thus, when you have this type of hand, you want to play in such a way that will reduce the competition.  If you have a big pair, such as an AA or KK preflop, you will want to raise to lower the amount of low limit Texas Hold'em players in.  Just remember that big pair hands do not like lots of opponents.  They win most when there are few players against them.

Draws: A drawing hand is when low limit Texas Hold'em player still needs cards to improve to be the winner.  The common draws that you will run into are: open ended straights, flush draws, and small pairs, etc.  An open ended straight is a hand where either end can hit and you will be able to complete your straight.  An example of an open ended straight in a low limit Texas Hold'em game is when you have KJ and the flop is QT4.  Thus, if you hit either a 9 or an A, you would have the straight.  A flush draw, for example would be having 9Tclubs and the flop is KcQc4d.  Thus, it only take one more club to make the flush for you.  The last common draw is a small pair.  An example of this hand would be having 55 and the flop being A53. You would have hit your draw since you now would have three 5s.  The main point when doing your hand falls in the draw category is to remember that draws favor lots of opponents since they hit infrequently.  Thus, to make draws profitable in a low limit Texas Hold'em game you need lots of poker players to be in the hand.

Milking Hands: The last category to be discussed is the milking hand.  Although you would like to see these hands often they are rarer then having top pair.  A milking hand is when you have two pair or better in a low limit Texas Hold'em game.  Let us say that you have Ac5c and the flop is Qc9c2c.  This would give you a very good hand and difficult for another poker player  to beat you.  Thus, your goal would now be to extract the most money from the other low limit Texas Hold'em players.  This would best be accomplished by doing what is know as slow play.   Slow play means not raising until later betting rounds where the bet size doubles.  Another words, milking it!  Just keep in mind, that you want to make the most money on these hands that you can.
