Poker Tournament Strategy as a Chip Leader

Poker Tournament Strategy as a Chip Leader
Chances are that you are not afraid to play loose and build a chip stack in the beginning of every poker tournament that you enter. However, more often than not find as you play in the poker tournament goes on your poker chip lead will increase - or at least it better if you plan to be in the tournament money.
If your chip stack does increase, you will find that you now have cash to lose. Thus, you better start tightening up to guarantee yourself of making the money. Below are a few chip leader strategies that I suggest next time you enter a poker tournament:
1. Avoid Other Big Stacks
It is very likely that a poker player with a big stack is not going to mess with the chip leader unless they have something really good. By this statement, I mean that you should not look to attack them until you have to.
2. Attack Comfortable Players
Comfortable players have a large enough stack to attack as a chip leader because they are not going to fight you for blinds unless they have a really good hand. As a rule, these poker players just want to make it into the money.
3. Play Position
If you are the chip leader, you are not in the dire situation of needing to play marginal hands from any position. Instead, play in position. Position is king in poker, so use your chip advantage to wait out the blinds and play in strong position. However, do not sit around waiting for great hands to come to you.
As a rule, you should be looking to make plays most of the time when you are in position. Your goal should be to steal blinds from weak players. Just remember, never give your chip advantage away to the blinds.
