Below are some common mistakes made in online poker that that both novices as well as experienced poker players make when playing poker online.  In order to avoid these common mistakes made in online poker, you have to practice certain strategies so that you can avoid these common mistakes made in online poker and be successful when playing online poker.

If you want to be a winner at online poker, just remember that it is all about skills.  Do not get distracted.  When playing online poker, many poker players make the common mistake in online poker of not having  an attention span.  Unlike many casino games, you need to concentrate on the details of this game and not be distracted.  If you are a novice, playing online poker at home can sometime ruin your attention to a great extent due to the phone, radio or TV. Thus, make sure that you avoid all these distracting elements when you decide to play online poker.

Another common mistake made in online poker is the mistake of playing cards even in instances when it would have been more advisable to have folded.  Remember, when playing online poker to win, it is a waiting game.  Many online poker players cannot resist the chance of seeing the poker game through.  Even until the flop to see if there is any chance at all of getting a better hand.

Instantaneous call: strength
Quick bet: strength

Another common mistake made by online poker players is that they talk too much!  Many online poker players fail to realize that talking can reveal much about an online poker player.  Thus, never waste time in talking to your opponents.

Another common mistake in online poker that I see is when a poker player wins a pot and rubs it in their opponents face.  Try to avoid saying anything to your opponents when you win a pot. By doing so, you might instead get your opponents anger.  Just drag the chips in a gracious manner towards you.  Do not make your opponents enemies, otherwise they will be gunning for you.

There are some online poker players who do not know what they are doing.  Thus, they just resort to imitating other players.  In other words, they are copy cats.  When playing online poker, this is very bad poker strategy for several reasons.   They are:

1.  you are not learning how to play online poker by imitating.
2.  if you do learn some good strategies, rest assured that you will also learn some bad ones.
3.  if you play online poker by following other poker players, you wii soon be very easy to read and beat

Another common mistake made in online poker is showing your cards.  Afterall, you want to be a winner and to win a large pot.  If you show your cards, you just might put some players on tilt and thus making them less confident in their hand.
